Thanks to the nature of it being recompiled, you can target regular function calls too, and transform those like you would some unique syntax

— But, sticking with existing ways is not thinking of the big picture... you get stuck in the semantics of the code and are forced to abide by the rules they set forth, whereas if you invent a new way to do it rather than use a promise, you can write code more efficiently... so it is more, better tools
